Why God Says It's Okay to Say No

Hi, I'm Julie Hawkes. Welcome to The Laws of Peace, where you will learn how to understand and apply God's laws in simple ways so that you can take small steps to create big changes and miracles and become the person you are always meant to be.

The answers are in the scriptures. Let me show you how to find them. Today's episode is called Why God Says It's Okay to Say No.

We are talking about the law of giving and receiving this month, and it has three parts. The first part states that you cannot give what you do not have. And it sounds so logical, like I cannot give you chocolate if I do not have chocolate.

And yet we give from a place of burnout. We give from a place of being depleted and exhausted and stressed out, and we just give and give and give and give. But why do we do that?

Why don't we say no? I have a few ideas. We may feel guilty when we say no.

We don't want to disappoint or let other people down. People might be angry if we say no. And isn't char...

Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Relationships

Hi, I'm Julie Hawkes. Welcome to The Laws of Peace, where you will learn how to understand and apply God's laws in simple ways so you can take small steps to create big changes and miracles and become the person you are always meant to be.

The answers are in the scriptures. Let me show you how to find them. Today's episode is called Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Relationships.

And I'm going to warn you right up front, this one is going to be controversial. You're going to want to throw tomatoes at my head. That's okay.

And before we begin, I want to bring something up really important. The concepts that we are discussing today do not apply to abusive relationships. In those instances, other action and solutions are required.

Today, I am talking about regular, everyday relationships that sometimes suck. I want to start with telling you a little bit about me and my husband.

We have been married for 33 years, and I am the kind of a person who is a little bit a...

The Secret to Receiving Grace

grace receiving Oct 30, 2025

Today's episode is called The Secret to Receiving Grace.

This month, we are discussing the law of the divine economy, which basically states that we do our part, we prepare to receive and the Lord gives us grace to do what would be impossible otherwise.

 We prepare to receive grace.

And there are three principles that are a part of this law.

The first one we discussed last week, which is faith and taking action.

 Today, we'll discuss grace.

Next, we will discuss the third principle.

 So let's dive right in.

We're going to start with the parable of the talents.

 This is a famous parable.

 Everybody knows it.

The servants were given different amounts of talents, and most of them doubled them, but one buried his in the dirt.

And Brad Wilcox, in his book, Changed Through His Grace had a really beautiful take on this.

He started by telling us about when he has a new grandbaby.

Every time he has a new grandbaby, he rushes t...

How to have more faith, more freedom, and more miracles

faith freedom miracles Oct 16, 2025

Today's episode is called How to Have More Faith, More Freedom, and More Miracles.

This month, we are studying the Law of Sacrifice.

The Law of Sacrifice states that everything has a price and a price must be paid for everything.

Raymond Halliwell, in his book, Working the Law, had this to say about it.

He said, We are sacrificing every day of our lives, whether we want to or not, whether we know it or not.

No matter what we want in life, we will have to give up something in order to get it.

Freedom is not living in obsessed, undisciplined life.

Freedom is being able to control your life and making it what you want it to be.

An undisciplined life is an insane life.

Discipline is required to grow and receive something better.

We must sacrifice for what we want in the moment, for what we want in the long run.

Many people don't like this Law of Sacrifice because it implies pain and hardship, when the reality is, is that we give up...

Why You Don't Need Self-Confidence

Today's episode is called Why You Don't Need Self-Confidence, What You Can Get Instead.

It's actually a little bit controversial because it's an idea that maybe you haven't considered.

And it kind of goes against what we're taught in the personal development world.

The information that I am sharing with you today comes primarily from M.

Catherine Thomas in her book, Selected Writings.

She also has a BYU speech called The Doer of Our Deeds.

And when she gave it, even back then, it was controversial.

So you can go check it out to get more information about the things that we're sharing.

I want to get started by telling you first, three main reasons why we don't feel lovable or why we get lost in who we really are, or why we feel less than and of no value.

The first is that we are in a fallen world.

When we came to earth, we were naturally separated from our Heavenly Father, our Heavenly parents, and there was a loss there because we l...

What to do When God's Plan Feels Stupid

godsplan trust Oct 01, 2025

Today's episode is called What to Do When God's Plan Feels Stupid.

Maybe that's never happened to you.

 It's happened to me.

I want to start with a story.

We're going to start with the story of Naaman from 2nd Kings 5.

Now, remember, Naaman was a leper, and he was a really good guy.

In verse 1 of 2nd Kings 5, it says that he was a mighty man in valor, but he was also a leper, and his wife's maid knew about Jesus and told her about Jesus.

 So he wrote a letter.

He sent this letter to the prophet with lots of money, clothes and everything, and he said, Help me.

The prophet was a little bit stressed out.

So what happened was Naaman actually came with his horses and his chariots, and he stood at the door, the house of Elisha.

This is where we're going to catch the story starting in verse 10.

Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shall be cleaned....

The Parable of the Ping Pong Balls

levels obedience Sep 24, 2025

Hi, I'm Julie Hawkes.

The answers are in the scriptures.

Let me show you how to find them.

Today's episode is called The Parable of the Ping Pong Balls and the Difference Grace Makes.

We're going to start with three progressive levels of obedience.

These have to do with our motivation and the reasons why we obey.

 All obedience is good.

As we grow in our intentions and as we grow in our abilities, then obedience shifts from becoming transactional to becoming transformational.

We become rather than just do.

That's what we're going to talk about today.

I want to read a quote to you from Elder David A.

Bednar from a talk called Heartfelt and Willing Obedience from Education Week at BYU-Idaho in 2002 and he said, "Obedience is not simply a passive, steady state.

Rather, obedience must grow, develop, deepen, increase and expand.

Our experience with and understanding of the principle of obedience should change as we develop spiritua...

How Our Thoughts Create Success

success thoughts Sep 23, 2025

Today's episode is called How Thoughts Create success.

We are talking about the law of success.

Years and years ago, my husband and I were really struggling financially.

We had three small children, we lived in a teeny tiny little apartment, and we drove a grey van.

I went grocery shopping late at night because I did not want to take my kids and was already overwhelmed. I just wanted a few moments of peace.

So one night in the middle of winter, I had come home from grocery shopping and was pulling all of the groceries out of out of the car.

If you're like me, you just load them all up at once because you don't want to make 2 trips.

So my arms were filled with groceries, I slammed the door shut on the van and the window shattered.

I was devastated.

I immediately thought to myself, how on the earth are we going to pay for this?

I had no idea.

We couldn't go without a window for our van because our children were small and it was cold.
