Welcome to The Laws of Peace where you will learn how to understand and apply God's laws in simple ways so that you can take small steps to create big changes and miracles and become the person you were always meant to be.

The answers are in the scriptures.

Let me show you how to find them.

Today's episode is called How to Have More Faith, More Freedom, and More Miracles.

This month, we are studying the Law of Sacrifice.

The Law of Sacrifice states that everything has a price and a price must be paid for everything.

Raymond Halliwell, in his book, Working the Law, had this to say about it.

He said, We are sacrificing every day of our lives, whether we want to or not, whether we know it or not.

No matter what we want in life, we will have to give up something in order to get it.

Freedom is not living in obsessed, undisciplined life.

Freedom is being able to control your life and making it what you want it to be.

An undisciplined life is an insane life.

Discipline is required to grow and receive something better.

We must sacrifice for what we want in the moment, for what we want in the long run.

Many people don't like this Law of Sacrifice because it implies pain and hardship, when the reality is, is that we give up something lesser for something greater.

We learned about this, the more principle in last week's episode.

God wants to give us more and we need to give a little bit to get it.

Let's go to the scriptures and see this illustrated in real time.

We're going to start in Daniel chapter one.

Now, this is the story of Daniel and his buddies and the word of wisdom.

What happened is the King Nebuchadnezzar went through the kingdom and he gathered the best of the best and brought them back into his courts to train them and to teach them so that they could grow to be his leaders.

And he expected certain things from them.

And one of them was to follow his diet, which was meat and wine.

Daniel and his friends had grown up eating pulse.

Pulse is grains, seeds, and vegetables.

Basically, it's the word of wisdom.

And so this was a conundrum for Daniel and his friends because they knew what was right.

They needed to follow the word of wisdom, but they were under all of this pressure to follow what the king was telling them to do.

 So Daniel proposed a deal.

His idea was that they would give him 10 days where they could eat what they felt was best for them, which was pulse and drink water.

And then they would compare them to the other children in the group and see how they fared.

And so that's what they did.

And so in chapter 1 verse 15, it says this, at the end of 10 days, their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children who did eat the portion of the king's meat.

And in verse 20, and in all matters of wisdom and understanding that the king inquired of them, he found them to 10 times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in his realm.

 Their discipline paid off.

They did something that was hard.

They stood up for themselves and they went against what the king wanted.

And they ate food that was better for them.

And they had this massive blessing.

 They had more freedom.

 They had more clarity.

 They had clearer minds.

They had more wisdom and understanding.

 They had more energy.

They felt better because they were disciplined and they made the sacrifice.

Let's go look at another story.

 This is in Matthew 19.

This is the story of the rich young ruler.

 This guy is rich.

He's lived the gospel his whole life.

He comes up to the Savior and he says in verse 16, he says, Good master, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?

 He wanted eternal life.

And first the Savior goes through and talks about the Ten Commandments.

And in verse 20, he says, The young man said unto him, All these things I have kept for my youth up, what lack I yet?

And this is what the Savior says to him.

He's inviting him into a sacrifice.

He says, Jesus said unto him, If that will be perfect, go and sell all that thou hast and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven and come and follow me.

But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful for he had great possessions.

In this moment, he was unwilling to give up all he had for the Savior.

He was unwilling to make the sacrifice.

We don't know the rest of the story, but I hope somewhere down the road, he had a change of heart, and he was willing to make the sacrifices necessary that the Lord was inviting him into so that he could become the person he was always meant to be and to have that eternal life.

 Sacrifice is required, right?

And sometimes God asks us to give the thing that we love most.

He usually asks us to give up our favorite sins.

There's a quote by Joseph Smith, and this is a powerful quote because it teaches the principle.

 Listen carefully.

He says, A religion that does not require the sacrifice of all things, never have the power sufficient to produce the faith necessary to lead to life and salvation.

 Wow.

This is really interesting because he says that when we sacrifice, we have more faith.

Which leads to action, which leads to eternal life.

Sacrifice creates faith and creates power to receive miracles.

 Let me repeat that.

Sacrifice creates faith and faith creates power to receive miracles.

In Moroni chapter 7 verse 37, it says this, for it is by faith that miracles are rot and it is by faith that angels appear into the ministering of men.

Wherefore, if these things have ceased, woe be unto the children of men for it is because of unbelief and all is in vain.

So how did Joseph Smith teach us to get faith?

 Sacrifice.

Discipline is a muscle that grows as we make sacrifices.

Discipline creates order in our lives and it creates a space for us to receive more faith, more miracles, and more freedom.

Let me read you one more quote.

This is from a lady named Karen T.

Prior in her book Understanding the Divine.

 And she said this.

She said, Sacrifice is to align our will with God's will completely.

We give him what we have and what we want, just like the young ruler, and he gives it back to us clean and sanctified.

We think sacrifice means losing something, but it doesn't.

Sacrifice is about loving God above all else, giving all that we have to him.

He then sanctifies what we've sacrificed and makes it holy.

This empowers us to have control over things instead of them controlling us.

Sacrifice is the principle of power.

It is the principle that gives us power to do God's will and overcome all things.

This does not remove these things from our influence.

It gives us greater influence over them, over all things.

When we started, we talked about how we sacrifice, whether we know it or not.

 We are constantly making sacrifices.

If we're watching Netflix, we're binge watching Netflix and we are eating nachos and Twinkies, then we're sacrificing our health.

We're sacrificing our time for the pleasure in the moment of watching Netflix.

If we are spending time studying the scriptures, then we are sacrificing our time and our efforts so that we can learn more about God and how he shows up in our life.

There's just so many ways that we sacrifice.

 Parents sacrifice, my husband sacrifices.

Every day he goes to work.

He's sacrificing doing fun things for showing up and doing a job that pays well and gives us the things that we need in our lives.

I want you to look at the sacrifices that you're making currently.

Raymond Holliwell says, a lot of times we don't even know what we're sacrificing.

So take a minute today and think about the things that you're giving up and the things that you're receiving.

Are you happy with the sacrifices that you're making?

Would you rather shift or change those sacrifices?

I had a client a long time ago who was a new mom, and she was required to work, and she was mad.

She was so mad that she had to work.

But the reality was is that she had a really high standard.

Her husband was in college, and she needed to get her nails done.

She needed to get her lashes done.

She needed to get her hair done.

She needed to drive a really nice car, and she wanted to live in a really nice place.

And so the price of all of those things, while her husband was making this sacrifice to go to college, to get a better degree, to get a better career.

See, he's also making a sacrifice.

The sacrifice for her to have all those things required her to work.

Now I told her that she could change the sacrifice.

She could give up all of those things, and she could go live with her parents for a time while her husband finished college, and then she wouldn't have to work.

But then she'd be giving up her space, and she'd be giving up her nails and her hair.

And do you see how it all works?

So if you're unhappy with what you're receiving, maybe you need to change the sacrifice.

Something to think about for sure.

Thank you so much for being here.

I hope you take some time to think about the sacrifices that you're giving up, the things you're giving up, and the things you're receiving, and what needs to shift and change in your life.

Thank you again for being here.
