The 5 lies stopping you from creating the life you want
Today's episode is called the five lies that keep us from creating the life that we want.
Have you ever felt really inadequate?
Have you ever felt like you're not enough?
Have you ever worried that you have the gifts or the talents that you need to accomplish the impossible tasks before you?
Have you ever felt like no matter how much you do or try, things never change?
We're going to talk about that today.
I'd like to get started by explaining the law of creation.
The law of creation states that we are Co creators with God.
He designed us to create.
Creating is how we find joy and purpose and meaning in our lives.
And we are creating every minute of every day.
Whether we are intentional about it or not.
We are creating with our thoughts, with our beliefs, with our feelings, with the words that we say and the things that we do.
And the thing that gets in the way of us creating that life that we want is the lies that we believe about ourselves and our situation.
But we're not alone.
There are so many other people that don't see the the value and the gifts and the talents that they bring to the table.
We see that in the scriptures and God understands that.
So he's given us several examples of that.
We're going to start in Judges chapter 6.
This is the story of Gideon.
Gideon was just a regular guy and he was called to fight the Midianites and it was this huge, huge army.
And, and it's interesting how God starts with with Gideon.
An Angel shows up in Gideon's life and this is what he says in verse 12.
It says, and the Angel of the Lord appeared unto him and said unto him, the Lord is with thee, thy thou mighty man of valor.
It's fascinating to me that God wanted him to know who he was before he invited him into the challenge that was ahead.
When we look up what valor means, valor means great courage in the face of danger, especially in battle.
Isn't that beautiful?
And so then they kind of have a little argument.
Gideon's like, I'm just a regular guy, I can't do this, why are you asking me?
But but he's promised that the Lord will be with him and that the Lord will help him to win the battle.
Then he goes on to have this miraculous battle where the Lord pairs down his army to 300 people and they go fight thousands and thousands of people and they win.
You'll if you want to read the story, it's in Judges Chapter 7 and it's a good one.
Let's look at a second story, the story of Enoch.
Enoch was a weird guy.
He was awkward, he was slow of speech.
The people didn't like him.
And God called him to be the the spokesman.
He called him to be the leader.
He called the hymn to teach the people about God.
And this was Enoch's response.
Enoch in Moses chapter 6, verse 31 says, And when Enoch heard these words, he said, Why is it that I have found favor in thy sight, and I'm but a lad, and all the people hate me, for I am slow of speech.
Why?
Why am I thy servant?
Then Lord goes on to make some really powerful promises to Enoch.
He says, My spirit is upon you.
Wherefore all my words, all your words will I justify.
And the mountain shall leave before you, and the rivers shall turn from their course, and thou shall abide in me, and I in you.
Therefore walk with me.
So Enoch's like, OK, I believe you, I believe you, let's do it.
So it says, Enoch went forth.
And this is a crazy funny, not funny story.
So Enoch goes forth and this is what the verse says.
And he cried with a loud voice testifying against their works.
And all men were offended by him and they started talking amongst themselves and they said there is a strange thing in the land.
A wild man have come upon us.
Enoch was actually right.
He was weird, he was awkward, he was offensive.
The people really didn't like him.
And yet he'd been called to do this thing even though he was completely inadequate.
Do you ever feel like Enoch?
I know I do.
So we Fast forward a chapter and in Moses Chapter 7, we see promise fulfilled.
We see God show up for Enoch.
We see Enoch press forward in spite of his failures, and he creates the city of Enoch.
That was translated all these awesome things.
And this is such a beautiful scripture.
In Moses 713 it says, and so great was the faith of Enoch.
Let me stop right there.
Enoch chose faith.
Enoch chose to to nourish and nurture his thoughts and his beliefs so that he could have access to the miracles God had promised him.
And so great was the faith of Enoch that he led the people of God, and their enemies came to
battle against them, and they spake the the word of the Lord.
And the earth trembled, and the mountains fled even according to his command.
And the river, rivers of water were turned out of their course, and the roar of the lions was heard out of the wilderness, and all the nations feared greatly.
So powerful was the word of Enoch and so great was the power of the language which God had given him.
This is a beautiful story of inadequacy turned to power.
When we partner with the with the Lord and we Co create and we use his promises and we true we choose to manage our thinking with with the thoughts and the faith that point us in the direction of Jesus Christ.
Then we have power to overcome our inadequacies, our weaknesses.
The Lord will sustain us and help us to do the things that He's called us to do, even when we feel like we can't.
But first and foremost, we need to understand and accept who we really are and what our mission and purposes in life.
God is more than happy to tell us that.
So let's talk about our thoughts, our beliefs, and our feelings, right?
We're constantly create, creating, and our inner narrative becomes our outer I can talk.
Our inner narrative becomes our outer reality.
It just does.
And what we're thinking, feeling, believing inside is showing up for us in our everyday lives and we get to decide what we're going to think and feel.
So let's talk about these five lies.
There are five lies that keep us stuck in inadequacy.
They keep us stuck in procrastination.
They keep stuff stuck in not enough.
And anytime you're feeling really worried, really anxious, really discouraged, I guarantee you're thinking or believing one of these five lies.
The 1st is I can't do this.
I'm it's, I'm not good enough.
It's I can't.
And it could be what if I can't?
What if I can't figure this out?
What if I can't do this job that I've been called to do?
What if I can't talk to my spouse or handle this thing with my children?
The second is, I'm not smart enough, pretty enough, skinny enough, righteous enough, rich enough, whatever it is, I'm not.
Or what if I'm not enough?
We see that inadequacy showing up.
The third one is actually my favorite.
It's no one loves me, no one cares.
I'm all alone.
I have to figure this out all by myself.
It's all on me.
If I don't do it, no one else is going to do it.
I'm all alone.
No one cares.
The 4th is, it's always been bad and it's always going to be bad.
And that can be, that can be in any situation because one of Satan's most powerful tools is he makes us forget or he helps us remember it wrong.
That's why constantly in the scriptures, the Lord is saying remember, remember, remember.
He wants us to remember him.
He wants us to remember his miracles.
He wants us to remember past successes because that gives us the faith to take the action to move forward.
And so sayings back, they're going, Oh yeah, this has sucked since day one.
I don't know why you married that person in the 1st place.
You've never liked them or this was a dumb job in the beginning.
Why don't you quit it right it he takes away all the hope out of this situation.
Things will never change.
They'll never get better.
It's always going to be bad.
That's the adversary in your life.
Why are you listening to him?
And the last lie is something bad is about to happen.
What if something bad happens?
I just, I have this gut feeling something bad about it is about to happen.
The problem with that lie is that we get this idea in our head that we're receiving revelation that the Holy Ghost is is warning, as if something bad that's about to happen.
But guess what?
That's not how the Holy Ghost works.
If the Holy Ghost is going to tell you that something bad is about to happen, then the Holy Ghost is also going to give you a measure of peace.
You're going to go through this challenge.
However, God is going to be with you and you're going to be OK if you're not feeling a measure of peace, that's not God.
That's not how God works.
That's not how God talks.
So we need to be aware of these lies first and foremost.
And then we need to challenge the lice because they're not true and they're stopping us from creating the life we want.
They're stopping us from living in our purpose.
What would happen if Enoch went out that first time and it was a horrible experience?
He's like, OK, I'm done, forget it.
I'm not going to do this anymore.
Or what if Gideon said, yeah, I don't believe you.
That's just garbage.
I'm not going to go out and fight an army with 300 people.
No way.
See you later.
We have regular everyday, ordinary people are called to do extraordinary things.
And you have the opportunity in your life to have an extraordinary influence in the people that you are that you are around.
You have an an opportunity to create beautiful things in your life.
But it starts with your thinking and it starts with your belief.
You have to challenge these lies that you're hearing in your head.
A couple of the ways that have really helped me to do that is I flip it.
What if it works out?
What if it is OK?
You can challenge it with truth.
Well, what's really true?
What's really true here in this situation?
But my favorite way to do it is just to say things like this is just a bad day, tomorrow will be better, or this is just a problem to be solved, or it's OK, Julie, you can do it.
You got this.
I say that to myself all the time.
Or sometimes when I feel completely overwhelmed and I'm like, I really can't do this thing, I look myself in the mirror and I say watch me do this.
But holding to the promises of God can really help us as we overcome these lies.
And I had a whole series of podcasts just last month about how to access God's promises and how to apply them to your life because there are over 3000 promises that God wants to give us just in the Bible alone.
So that's the challenge I have for you today.
The challenge is I want you to think about what lie is stealing your peace and what truth do you need to replace it with?
Now, it's interesting that I said, what truth do you need to replace it with?
Because I didn't say positivity.
I didn't say just slap on that toxic positivity.
Oh, everything's OK.
Oh, I'm going to be OK.
No, no, no, that doesn't work.
And it doesn't help because the reality is, is what you're facing is a hard challenge.
It is, however, God will equip you with the tools that you need to accomplish the tasks He's invited you into.
I've seen it happen over and over again in my own life, in the lives of the people that I love.
And we see it over and over again as a pattern in the Scriptures.
Go check out first Nephi 37, right?
God's going to God's commanded me to do this thing, and He's going to help me to accomplish it.
So change the thinking so you can create something new.
I have scripture cards that I'm so excited about.
And the scripture card that goes with today has the word think on it.
It says think for as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.
Proverbs 23:7
The question that goes with this is what thoughts am I letting shape how I feel, act and see myself today?
The invitation is pay attention to your inner dialogue.
Replace negative or fearful thoughts with thoughts that honor God and strengthen you.
And the affirmation is I choose thoughts that uplift me, guide me towards goodness, and reflect God's truth.
Then at the bottom, there's a series of scriptures that are companion verses so you can do a deeper dive study into this.
If you're interested in these scripture cards, the link is in the show notes.
Change your thinking, you guys.
You can do it.
And as you do it, you'll be able to create peace and joy and the things that you've always wanted to create.
Thank you so much for being here.
If you have enjoyed this podcast, will you share it with somebody that you love?
Again, thanks.
Have a great day.
